Boating holidays

Boating holidays has a history of more than 50 years and is possible on designated waters across 14 European countries, through thousands of kilometres of lakes and backwaters. Water-bound tourists are always welcomed by water-side settlements, towns, villages and attractions. There are numerous restaurants with morring opportunities waiting to serve you culinary delights

Lake tourism has become increasingly popular in recent years across a number of our neighbouring countries. You will be delighted to know that the Hungarian state will offer boating holidays from May 2020, you can select your perfect dates and boat size by using the "Foglalás“ (Booking) option.

Discover the Tisza!

Following the launch of the Hungarian Holiday Boat Programme, Lake Tisza, the Upper Tisza and the Bodrog region will become an even more popular tourist destination growing year on year. 

Holiday boating is a touristic option for pleasure boating on inland waters where it is possible to have an independent holiday on a slow-moving motorboat that also serves as your accommodation and without need for licenses or previous experience. Rivers, lakes, water reserves, canals are all available to you during the holiday boat season from early spring to late autumn.

Holiday boats are specifically designed for this purpose, the hull is fully protected from every angle, they are extremely safe and easy to use, full training is provided to every renter. The water’s needed for holiday boating can be artificial or natural waters, provided it can be ensured that they have the necessary depth for the boat, slow stream and that there are no obstructions in it.

During a boating holiday, typically 4–5 hours are spent with actual driving. The rest of the time is spent on other leisure activities. You can explore the surrounding area on bicycles, swimming, the beach, kayaking, fishing, playing golf, horseback riding, hiking, which all have an important role in active recreation.

Boating without a boating license or previous experience
The holiday boat may be driven by a person over 21 old who has completed the boating training.

Due to the renovation of the Tiszalök floodgate in 2020, the programme will launch on two routes: The first between Kisköre and Tiszalök, and another above Tiszalök, centering around Tokaj and Bodrog. From 2021, (Assuming renovation of the floodgate is completed) the two routes will be be connected. After completing safety training, the holiday boats will be available for hire without a boating license.

This system has a history of 50 years in Europe. Boating license-free holiday boating (canal boating or houseboating) is possible on designated waters in France, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, England, Ireland, Scotland, Spain, Portugal, Sweden, Finland, Poland and the Czech Republic, on thousands of kilometres. The boating license-free use of holiday boats is possible on condition of travelling on designated water areas and the boats having particular parameters (speed, length, capacity, operational background), which is regulated by laws in every country. Keeping to that practice, the boats can be used without a boating license in Hungary as well in the future.

Is a deposit necessary?

As with most vehicle rentals, a deposit is required to act as an insurance against damage. This is of course fully refundable once the boat is returned in the same condition as when rented.

Do I need a license to rent a holiday boat?

Holiday boats may be driven without a driver's license on the routes indicated on the navigation chart.
